minutes drive from Disneyland. In addition to being a
shop, Mott's features the world's largest doll house
showroom... 4,000 square feet.

Palm Springs, CA The Leo S. Singer
Miniature Room Collection at the Palm
Springs Art Museum consists of twelve
miniature interiors that depict the theme of
laundry, a subject with special significance
for Mr. Singer. He was one of the founders
and president of Miracle White Company,
manufacturers of Miracle White laundry
detergents.
The idea for these miniature rooms
originated after Mr. Singer took a trip
around the world in 1967. He decided
to have a series of miniature rooms created
to show the place laundry played in people's
lives in different times and in different
countries. Mr. Singer commissioned Eugene J.
Kupjack to create the rooms. Considered the
"dean of American miniaturists," Mr. Kupjack
is regarded as the foremost artist in his
field.

planes from the 18th to 20th centuries.

This museum features
regular exhibits that showcase work from the Carole and
Barry Kaye collection. Called "a revelation" by the New
York Times, the museum collection features The Pistner House, a
1750's-style French townhouse.
Sarasota, FL
The Ringling Museum offers the
world’s largest miniature circus, impressive in
scale and expansive in scope. The
¾-inch-to-the-foot scale replica of Ringling
Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus was built
by the legendary Howard C. Tibbals. The
circus is complete with eight main tents, 152
wagons, 1,300 circus performers and workers,
more than 800 animals and a 55-car train.

The Art Institute of Chicago holds the
largest collection of 1:12 scale Thorne Rooms.
With 68 in their permanent collection, visitors can view
elements of European interiors from the late 13th
century to the 1930s and American furnishings from the
17th century to the 1930s.

This magnificent three-story castle stands nearly eight
feet tall and holds numerous rooms including a Chapel, a
Magic Garden, and a Great Hall complete with intricate
systems of electricity and running water.
In 1976 the Castle found a
permanent home at the Chicago Museum of Science
and Industry. The Castle has over 2 million
visitors a year.

million marbles. Special features include fine
scale miniatures including the gilded Palace of
Versailles and an American Plains Indian tepee.

House, a restored
Queen Anne style cottage circa 1885,
this museum holds antique and collectible
dollhouses, children's china and glass, miniature
furniture and accessories. The Goodman House is
located a block from the Jersey shore.

Lakes, NJ
The
Mountain Lakes Library holds six
miniature rooms by the late Edgar
Craven. Using 1:12 scale, these works
were created after Mr. Craven was
introduced to roomboxes at the 1933
Century of Progress Exhibition in
Chicago.
New York, NY
The Forbes Galleries are a unique treasure trove of
collectibles located in the heart of Greenwich Village.
Tucked within the lobby of the Forbes Magazine’s
headquarters in New York City, the Galleries are open
free to the public and feature antique toy boats, toy
soliders and roomboxes made for Malcom Forbes by Eugene
Kupjack.

The Museum
of the City of New York's Toy Collection
documents the social history of
childhood in New York City, through
everyday patterns of play and the
history of consumption. The collection
contains over 10,000 toys and
amusements. Holdings include the
Stettheimer Doll House of the 1920s, Ann
Anthony's Pavilion (1769); the
Shelton-Taylor house (1835); the Brett
house (1838); the Goelet house (1845);
the Elder house (1865); and Altadena's
house (1895) -- made for and used by
their families for generations.

The Panorama of the
City of New York is the jewel in the crown of the QMA
collection. Built for the 1964 World’s Fair, this
architectural model includes every single building
constructed before 1992 for a total of 895,000
individual structures.
Rochester, NY
The second largest children’s museum in the nation, the
Margaret Woodbury Strong National Museum of Play® is
home to the National Toy Hall of Fame® and the world’s
largest collection of toys, dolls, and play-related
artifacts.
Yorktown, NY
This permanent exhibit offers miniature houses and rooms
boxes in a variety of scales. The star of the exhibit is
the Marjorie Johnson dollhouse – a lovely house in late
Victorian style filled to the attic with tiny treasures.
The Yorktown Museum also features a fully-operational HO
scale model railroad.
Winston-Salem, NC
Toys in
this museum survey 1700 years dating from 225 A.D. to
1925 A.D. This museum holds dollhouses, trains, board
games, puppets and even airplanes. Many featured toys
are from the Moravians that settled in Salem in the
early 1800s.
PENNSYLVANIA---
Bethlehem, PA
The
Elizabeth Johnston Prime Dollhouse and
Toy Collection is now on permenant
exhibit at the Kemerer Museum. Mrs.
Prime's houses have been researched and
written about in numerous books and
magazines. The collection contains
pieces from the United States, England,
and Germany, dating from the 19th
century.
TENNESSEE---
Knoxville, TN
The Knoxville Museum of Art recently
restored and reinstalled nine Thorne
Rooms.
They were given to the museum in 1962 by
IBM. The KMA's Thorne Room Collection
includes: Early American Kitchen;
Spanish Bedroom, 16th century; Majorcan
Kitchen; Victorian Parlor, c. 1850;
English Dining Room, late 18th century;
New England Bedroom, c. 1770; Spanish
Foyer, 17th century; Federal Dining
Room, c. 1810; American Summer Kitchen,
1885; American Summer Kitchen; and Early
American Kitchen.
In addition
to a wonderful collection of paintings and folk art, the
Shelburne also maintains two intricately hand-carved
wood circuses: the Roy Arnold Circus Parade and the Kirk
Bros. Circus. The Arnold Circus Parade has nearly 4,000
figures and forms a parade over 500 feet long. The Kirk
Bros. Circus is a miniature three-ring circus with
audience comprised of over 35,000 pieces.

This museum is currently closed, but will
reopen late 2006 or early 2007.

Winchester, VA
The
R. Lee Taylor Miniatures Gallery is home to a
fascinating collection of furnished miniature houses and
rooms. The Miniatures Gallery has quickly become one of
the most popular museum exhibits.
